2016

Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) recently opened a new 150,000 sq. ft. vehicle maintenance, storage and operations facility. The facility incorporates sustainable design and environmentally friendly features. A Westmatic wash system was selected as these systems use less water, electricity and chemicals than comparable wash systems.

The wash bay features a Westmatic 3-Brush Rollover Bus Wash System which enables WRTA to wash their fleet of buses, vans and other non-revenue vehicles. This Rollover is a combination machine that can wash in brush, touchless or combination mode depending on the vehicle’s configuration.

The Rollover thoroughly washes the vehicle using a top horizontal brush and two vertical side brushes. The brushes intelligently wash around mirrors and other vehicle protrusions.

In keeping with the sustainable design of this new facility, a Westmatic water recycling system was incorporated. The recycling system uses stainless steel hydro-cyclones for mechanical separation, reducing particle size to 10 microns. No chemicals or other additives are necessary as the process uses ozone injection which safely eliminates odor-causing bacteria and accelerates solids precipitation.

While this facility was a new build, Westmatic’s Rollover Wash System can be installed in most existing wash bays making it ideal for retrofit.

Unique Design Feature

To give WRTA the capability to adjust to high volume demands, Westmatic provided a program option so that the machine could be used in a drive-through mode during any high-volume washing instances.

This option reduces the wash cycle time from 5 minutes to 90 seconds.
